Vanilla Frosting

Cake filling and topping
Preparation time : 15 mins

This is vanilla icing recipe not only for cakes but also for other baking items like puff patties, cookies, etc. The whole cooking is done on double boiler so that the sauce may not burn by overheating. For more ideas and techniques on icing, refer to the book Cake Icing and Decorating.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1/3 cup flour
1 egg
1 tspn vanilla
1 tspn butter

Procedure:

1. On a double boiler simmer milk.
2. In another bowl, mix sugar and flour.
3. Now add hot milk to the flour mixture and place it on double boiler. Stir constantly until the mixture becomes thick.
4. After that add beaten egg and let it further cook for few minutes so that the mixture become denser. Cool the mixture to room temperature and then use for any cake filling or topping.
